Can paint cover floral-print wall paper?

My bathroom has this very vibrant floral pattern from the 60's, and I'd like to repaint before my appraisal. Problem is, the house was built in 1880 and has plaster walls. When we took down the paper in other rooms the results were horrible. Can anyone suggest a type of paint that would cover a rainbow of colors?

Kem Primer, sherwin williams, a fast flashing primer, Air dries real quick, maybe the paper will not loosen before it flashes. Smile
Reply:go to the paint store and get the paint that will seal the wall paper. then you can paint it the color you went.
Reply:Please, please please don't paint over the wallpaper! As somone who just bought a c. 1900 house with painted-over wallpaper, I'd like to slap the previous owner. It makes it much more difficult for future owners to remove, and the texture of the wallpaper showed through the paint.

Removing wallpaper from plaster is not easy. Unlike drywall, it works better if you dry scrape it. It is a lengthy process, as you probably know. There are things you can apply to the wall to the paper residue to remove it (are your walls brown where the paper came off in the other rooms?) - that may be the step you missed the first time around. Go here and you'll find tons of resources for removing old wallpaper paste.

Don't take a shortcut. You'll get more money for your house if you do it right.
